cherry puff pastry galette

July 09, 2015 in summer, fruit, pies & tarts

I've been trying to find a new rhythm.

About four weeks ago, I started a new job. After so many years of working from home, I now find myself sitting in an office with a bunch of other people, 11 km away from home. It's good, of course. I get to accomplish things... finish them, even. I get to ride my bike to work. I get to meet new friends. In some ways, it's perfect [...]

bakabar for the win

June 25, 2015 in projects

Oh... Hello! Yes, I'm still here. I'm sorry I didn't write sooner. I've just been so busy reading sewing blogs and smiling.

You see, these Belgian sewing blogs are filled with kind words about a project me and two of my dearest friends have been working on for the past couple of months. Now, before you think I'm throwing the whole focus of this blog around - les filles de madeleine did, after all, also teach me how to sew - let me just say that this project of ours isn't concerned with sewing. Not at all. It's very much about butter, sugar, chocolate and coffee. Trust me.

June 16, 2015 in cake, fruit, summer

Do you ever wake up to a house that smells a little off? Maybe you forgot to take out the trash, or you left something out of the fridge for too long. Maybe you just had a crazy party last night... (I hope you had a crazy party last night.)

the first year of baking class

June 04, 2015 in baking class, tips & tricks

It has been even more of a joy to find myself laughing so much during classes, to reconnect with an old friend and, most importantly, to learn so many small, but crucial things about baking.

lessons in passion and organization

May 29, 2015 in baking class, musings

I like things organized.

I'm all about lists and schedules - I'm totally into this whole bullet journal thing -, I'm a sucker for neatly labeled jars and I really, really, really need things to have a place of their own. A logical, practical place.

My kitchen does not live up to these standards.

raspberry/passion fruit bavarois

May 21, 2015 in baking class, cake, fruit, summer

I have some sad news.

We had our final, proper, baking class of the year this week. Only a company visit and an exam are left on the agenda. After that, we'll be left to our own devices for a couple of months. Lucky that I already have some exciting baking plans lined up for the summer.

BAKING STORIES

from 2015 to 2018, I maintained a personal food blog entitled les filles de madeleine. it was named for my grandmother, mother and aunts, who not only taught me how to bake, but also instilled in me a deep sense of comfort and nostalgia, especially when it comes to food. I used the blog to share their stories and mine.
